Importer of Record (IoR)
This service is aimed at our customers based outside of the EU & the UK who supply their goods to the EU & UK market on DDP terms.
DDP stands for “Delivered Duty Paid” and it describes a process where the seller bears all the costs and risks involved in supplying the goods to the place of destination. On those terms the supplier of the goods has responsibility of clearing the goods for export and the import, they also pay any duties for both export and import. DDP can be used regardless of the mode of transportation selected.
Many EU and UK based companies prefer to purchase goods on DDP Incoterms as they are not willing to enter into any kind of transport contract with any entity and would rather let the seller handle all these responsibilities right up to their door. In DDP shipping, the seller has the maximum obligation as it involves the delivery of the goods to the buyer – door to door delivery.
An Importer of Record (IOR) is an importer who is responsible for ensuring that legal goods are imported following the laws and regulations of the importing country. They are responsible for all supporting documentation that goes along with an import. The importer of record is responsible for paying the assessed import duties and other taxes on the imported goods.
